Even when everyone hasn't gotten caravansaries yet, the Iroquois can potentially reach other capitals and earn gold (and science) from them. That also means that I have one more citizen for city connections, thus increasing my gold output (as city connection gold depend on population count).Īnd then there's the fact that their trade routes count forest and jungle tiles as roads when travelling through them. While Lumber Mills aren't really better than Mines, they still provide 1 more food, which also means I can support more citizens than I can if I had been focusing on mines. Their effects are also far more noticeable early on. Sure they lack the 10% production bonus as Workshops, but they're also slightly cheaper, both in production and in buying them. That means I get my potential gold improvements faster. Better still, moving through patches of forest mean my workers can shave 1 or 2 turns of walking from one resource to another. Not only that, but because my workers don't need to build roads, I can focus on improving resources instead, some of which also means more gold. With that gone, I could actually save a lot of gold in the long run. The Iroquois has the ability to establish a city connection with just nothing but forest or jungle tiles. Arabia and Portugal are more straightforward about this (extra luxuries and oil for Arabia, straight up gold buffs from Portugal), but Iroquois needs a bit more explanation.
